Barb Carle-Thiesson, FCA, ICD.D Senior Partner

As senior partner of Tyce Carle-Thiesson, an accounting and professional advisory services firm, Barb brings more than 20 years of experience in providing outstanding accounting, tax, and consulting services. She's familiar with family businesses and professionals, and has had extensive experience with health care professionals. Barb strives to find creative solutions to tax, personal finance, and business planning issues for businesses and professionals.

Never one to sit idle, Barb has been an active member of both the BC and Alberta CA institutes, including 2004-05 as the President of the Chartered Accountants of BC. Currently, Barb belongs to the Board of Evaluators for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, is a board member and treasurer of the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation and has recently been appointed to both the Board of Vancouver Island University and to membership on the Accounting Standards Oversight Council.

Having spent most of her life on the prairies, Barb enjoys "island life" to the fullest. She loves to curl, ride her motorcycle, and travel.

Doug Tyce, CA Managing/Tax Partner

Doug Tyce received his chartered accountant designation in 1995, and was among the top 1% of graduates in Canada. Doug provides accounting, tax, trust, and financial planning services to professionals, family businesses, and the real estate/construction industries.

In addition to managing the office, Doug, as the tax partner, provides the firm's clients with specialized tax planning regarding incorporation, income splitting, corporate reorganizations, succession planning, the purchase and sales of businesses, and estate planning.

When Doug's not at work, he is very involved with minor hockey in Nanaimo. He also plays hockey himself, and enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is a past Director of both the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce and the Nanaimo Minor Hockey Association.

Marnie O., CGA Senior Manager

Marnie has two boys and a wonderful husband that are the main focus in her life - all of her off time is spent with them. They enjoy swimming at Lake Cowichan where her parents have a cabin. She also enjoys swimming and the theatre.

Julie B., CGA Senior Manager

After graduating from UBC, Julie worked with Barb for a number of years before moving to Ontario where she earned her CGA designation and started working for Deloitte & Touche LLP as a senior tax accountant. She went on to become a tax manager with Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP in Vancouver, BC.

Specializing in tax has provided her with extensive experience in corporate, personal and estate tax. After starting a family, Julie moved back to the Island where she grew up, and returned to work with Barb. When not working, Julie is busy with her two children, enjoys camping, and spending time with family and friends.

Grant P., CGA Manager

Being a father to three small children keeps Grant pretty busy when he is not working in the office. On the weekend, he enjoys camping, boating and experiencing the great outdoors with his family. Grant also loves to curl and golf when the opportunity arises.

Petra B. Chartered Accountant

Petra has worked as a CA Manager and Controller in the public and private sector. Her profession has taken her from Winnipeg to Toronto and finally to Nanaimo. Fluent in German, and a Sudoku enthusiast, she enjoys the beaches and the natural beauty Vancouver Island has to offer.

Adrian D. Senior Accounting Technician

When not working in the office, Adrian loves travelling the world and learning about different cultures. He is also an avid currency collector, and has a passion for concerts and music.

Angela M. Accounting Technician

Angela joined the firm in September 2005, when she relocated from Nova Scotia. Some of her interests include amateur photography and traveling.

Sean H. CA Student

Sean joined the firm in 2008. When not at work or doing homework, Sean enjoys golfing, downhill mountain biking and hiking with family and friends.

Sean Y. CA Student

Born and raised in Beijing, Sean came to Canada in 2003 to attend University. After he graduated from the BBA program with distinction, Sean joined Tyce Carle-Thiesson to pursue his CA designation.

Sean is working through the challenges of being a CA student and learning the ways of an accounting firm. However, he is looking forward to gaining more knowledge and becoming a top professional accountant in the business field.

Katrina M. CMA Student

Katrina moved to the Island from Vancouver with her husband Brendon in 2004 to complete her BBA, at Vancouver Island University. Katrina joined the TCT team in November 2007, and is currently working on completing her CMA accounting designation. When she is not working she enjoys gardening, hiking and spending time with her family and friends.

Sandy S. CGA Student

Sandy joined Tyce Carle-Thiesson at the beginning of 2009. Being new to the Island, most of her free time is spent hiking, fishing and enjoying the outdoors.

Lisa T. Accounting Student

Lisa is currently in her fourth year of the Accounting program at Vancouver Island University. After graduation, she plans to enroll in the Chartered Accountants School of Business in hopes of becoming a CA. While not in the office or doing homework, Lisa enjoys spending time with her friends and family, travelling, going to concerts, and playing the piano.

Taylor O. Accounting Student

Tayler is currently enrolled in the faculty of Business Administration at Vancouver Island University, majoring in Accounting. When he is not working or taking classes, he enjoys spending time socializing with friends and family and participates in various sports and outdoor activities.

Kim A. Executive Assistant

At inception, Kim aided in the office setup and general organization. Along with her broad secretarial duties, she assists Doug and generally makes sure things are running smoothly.

When Kim's not working, she look forward to being with her family and friends. She also enjoys being creative, being outdoors, and loves camping along the Pacific Ocean - ah, the Island Life!

Erin T. Administrative Assistant

Having completed her formal training in 2008, Erin has now started her career as an administrative assistant. While completing a wide range of daily administrative and receptionist duties, Erin also assists Barb with her busy schedule.

In her spare time, Erin enjoys spending time with friends, taking her puppy Aries for walks on the seawall, watching movies, and sewing.

Barbara F. Internal Accountant

Originally hired as an administrative assistant, Barbara has now shifted roles to internal accountant looking after the company's bookkeeping.

During her time off, Barbara loves spending time with her husband Joe, her daughter Katie, and her new baby Benjamin.

Melissa S. Internal Accountant

Originally from Edmonton, Melissa and her fiancé moved to Nanaimo to pursue new opportunities on the Island. She hopes to expand her knowledge in the accounting field and obtain a CGA designation in the next couple of years.

When not in the office, Melissa enjoys spending time with her fiancé, Lee, and going for walks around Pipers Lagoon.

Sandra M. Office Assistant

Sandra is the file clerk at Tyce Carle-Thiesson. Her responsibilities include filing, database maintenance, and support in the administrative department.

When not in the office, Sandra loves to lawn bowl, hike, swim in the ocean, and entertain friends in her new home.
